On the day after Valentine’s Day, Steve and I attended Wine Tasting Tuesdays at Ten Tables JP. Every Tuesday, Ten Tables offers a fabulous deal where for $42 per person you get four courses paired with four wine pours. Each week, they select a different region to feature wines from. This week it was Italy which made me even more excited about the event. How could you go wrong with wine from Italy?!
I had been itching to eat at Ten Tables JP ever since Elizabeth and I went to Ten Tables for cocktail flights at the bar the day I became an official RD. I thought Valentine’s Day was a pretty good excuse to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. Ten Tables features seasonal, local foods in their always-changing menu. In the words of Ten Tables, “We shop like Europeans – close to home and in our communities.” You can be sure the food you are served here is fresh and high-quality.
The restaurant is small and intimate, only offering ten tables in their dining room, hence the restaurant’s name. Their open kitchen makes you feel like you are part of the creation of your meal as you watch them prepare your food. Dim lights, candles, exposed brick on the wall, all add to the decor of the restaurant.
Ok let’s get to the important stuff…FOOD.
Our first course was Moules Marinieres. Mussels in a white wine, garlic, and parsley broth. The mussels were tender and not chewy at all. The parsley added a nice flavor to the broth as well. This was paired with a little bubbly – NV Verdicchio, Voile Blanche, Brut, Fontezoppa, from Marche. Steve tried to talk me into not using the flash on my camera…so not to disturb those eating around us. I succumbed for the first course only…without the flash the pictures just wouldn’t do the food justice.
The second course was awesome. Steve had all natural Meyer Farm ribeye steak tartare which was a new experience for him. I held back and didn’t let him know ahead of time it was served cold and raw. I just let him assume anything with the word steak in it was safe. I was surprised he actually ate the whole thing. Yay for Steve trying new foods!
I had an amazing seared scallops dish served over parsnip puree (YUM!) and apples garnished with vinegar soaked radishes.
The second course was paired with a 2007 Rubesco, Lungarotti, from Umbria.
For our entrees, Steve got an herb stuffed chicken with cannellini bean and Tuscan kale ragout. I had a piece of Arctic Char served with the same ragout. It was amazing. I was so stuffed half way into my entree…but I plowed through knowing that the fish would just not taste the same the next day as leftovers, and it was too good to waste
Our entree was paired with a 2007 Felline, Alberello from Puglia.
Our dessert was a cheese platter with robiola tre latte (a combo of cow, goat, and sheep’s milk) with pear mostarda.
This was paired with a dessert wine – 2009 Moscato d’Asti, Piazzo, from Piedmonte
Steve and I were pleasantly stuffed after our four course meal. If you are a Boston dweller, I highly recommend you try Ten Tables. They also have a Cambridge location if JP is a hike.
Now I just need to find another excuse to go back there for dinner!
